In a momentous occasion at the South Dakota State Bar Annual Meeting and Convention, held on June 21, 2023, the legal community came together to recognize and celebrate the remarkable achievements of attorney, Tom Welk. Acknowledging his outstanding contributions to the legal field, Welk was awarded the esteemed McKusick Award. Established in 1951, the award has been presented to only 75 attorneys and exists to recognize attorneys such as Tom, who have made significant contributions to the legal field, inspiring their peers, and embodying the principles of justice.
